Extractors

When it comes to harvesting your honey, a great extractor is a necessity. Dadant’s collection of extractors includes a variety of styles from hand to electric powered extractors in all shapes and sizes. Honey extractors allow beekeepers of every experience level to save time during the extraction process. Using a honey extractor preserves the honeycomb in the frame and produces liquid honey for packaging.

Tangential Extractors spin the honey out of the frames one side at a time. After the first side is spun out, you stop the extractor and turn the frame around to spin the honey out of the reverse side. This is an effective method of extracting the honey for the hobby beekeeper that manages only a few colonies.

Radial extractors are the quickest, easiest, and most efficient way to extract honey from the comb. Uncapped combs are placed in the circular reel like spokes of a wheel with the frame top bars toward the outside of the reel. The reel spins, creating a centrifugal force, and because of the natural slant of the honeycomb cells, honey is thrown from both sides of the comb at once. No further handling of the frames is needed from starting to unloading time, freeing the operator for other work such as uncapping combs for the next load. With radial extractors, the outward pressure is against the top bar, not against the comb surface as in small, non-radial models, eliminating much of the breakage of the combs.
